Isamu Noguchi, the world-famous sculptor, furniture designer and landscape architect, was a graduate of La Porte High School.

His parents were Yone Noguchi, a famous Japanese poet; and Leonie Gilmour, an American editor and educator. The two met in 1901 when Leonie answered a classified ad placed by Yone, who needed an editor to help him with his English writings.

Bruce Johnson is the La Porte County Historian.
