Brewster Higley VI

Brewster Higley VI, a mid-19th century La Porte County doctor, is responsible for writing the lyrics to the western song now known as “Home on the Range.”

Brewster Higley VI, the third child of Brewster Higley V and Achsah Everts, was born in Rutland, Ohio, on Nov. 30, 1823, three months after the death of his father.

After the death of his mother, he lived with his grandfather, Judge Brewster Higley IV, who was a veteran of the American Revolution.
