La PORTE — The Feb. 24 newspaper – with the headline “La Porte begins 39N annexation effort” – points out that the city has embarked on this controversial and divisive plan without once seeing if they could negotiate a renewal of the water agreement with 39 North that has been in place for 25 years.

It has become clear the city of La Porte’s team has chosen to force an annexation by threatening to turn off the very water we rely upon to serve the district. How exactly does that increase safety for the freeholders within the district?

Mark Childress is president of the 39 North Conservancy District Board.
