Metamorphis to bring opera ‘Coppelia’ to local audiences

Swanhilda (Helen Williams) impersonates a doll for the eccentric Dr. Coppelis (Doug Moon) in the ballet “Coppelia” for the Metamorphis Traveling Theatre. The theater troupe and The Ballet Lady are bringing ballet to several Michiana locales during the holiday season this year. A new mini version of “Coppelia” was developed for Head Start children by Judith Joseph, who soon found that adult audiences were anxious to see it too. It will be at Rittenhouse in Michigan City at 2 p.m. Nov. 19, at Sharing Meadows in Rolling Prairie at 3 p.m. Dec. 12, and at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman, Michigan, at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 22. The comedic ballet – about a girl who impersonates a doll, convincing a doll maker that he can create magic – is taken from Act II of the original ballet with a few modern twists added. Music is by Leo Delibes. MTT creates plays, cabarets and ballets designed for travel to unexpected venues. For information call 219 872-4813.
