NIPSCO has announced that an updated timeline means the Michigan City Generating Station could close as early as 2026, two years earlier than originally scheduled.

MERRILLVILLE — NIPSCO’s Michigan City Generating Station could close up to two years earlier than originally planned, according to the company’s “refined plans for the future of its electric generation portfolio.”

As part of its 2021 Integrated Resource Plan public advisory process, Northern Indiana Public Service Co. identified a Preferred Energy Resource Plan that alters the timeline to retire the Michigan City station to occur between 2026 and 2028.
