La PORTE — When the church youth group leader asked if the kids could help out at our house in some way, our answer was, “Sure!” I didn’t know their efforts would cause me to reflect on Christian values and ask myself an uncomfortable question.

Carla Pillai, youth group leader at The Presbyterian Church of La Porte, explained, “We thought about what our youth group can do for our congregation and the community. This project, helping others, seemed like a good fit.”

Julie Kessler is a non-commissioned lay pastor at The Presbyterian Church of La Porte.
