Marquette Catholic High School students spent Sunday afternoon decorating the school’s hallways to kick off a week of events marking the 49th annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week.
Marquette’s Scholl Center was packed on Wednesday as students, faculty and parents from Marquette, Queen of All Saints and St. Stanislaus school attended an All-School Mass as part of the week’s festivities.
The freshman team was the big winner in the Name That Tune competition on Monday at Marquette, defeating the seniors and even a team of faculty members.
Catholic Schools week at St. Stan’s also included a ceremony and reception to induct new members into the National Junior Honor Society, who were then welcomed by current members of the prestigious group.
The Most Rev. Robert McClory, Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, performed the special Mass on Wednesday morning at Marquette. He also performed a special Mass at the other two Catholic high schools in the Diocese – Andrean and Bishop Noll – this week.

Students at St. Stanislaus Kostka didn’t even have to get dressed as the school celebrated Pajama Day to kick off the special week.

Marquette students used a lot of balloon, ribbons and other decor to create their own themed hallways on Sunday.

MICHIGAN CITY — They started Sunday by decorating hallways with balloons and banners; then wore unusual school attire and hats, played trivia, and even got a visit from the Bishop.
In conjunction with the National Catholic Education Association, Michigan City’s Catholic schools are celebrating a week of school-specific traditions and events for Catholic Schools Week.
