La PORTE — An unintended side effect of the COVID-19 pandemic – and the widespread use of masks – is being noted by audiologists and hearing specialists: More people are realizing they have hearing loss.

According to the American College of Audiology, “Not only do masks muffle speech and take away clarity by preventing the consonant sounds from being heard, masks also take away our ability to use visual clues that we have come to rely on.
