VALPARAISO — May 21 marked the start of National Emergency Medical Services Week – which has honored a critical segment of first responders in the U.S. for nearly 50 years, according to Northwest Health.

This year’s theme is “Where Emergency Care Begins,” which reflects the partnership between EMS teams and area hospitals.
