Q: Can you explain why my caller ID shows a local company and when I answer it is really someone else? It turns out that it is just a scam attempt and it just keeps getting annoying!

A: I get calls every week about caller ID phones reading IRS and other local businesses in which most are an attempt to scam you. The best way to explain it is, “There’s an app for that!” What happens is, scammers are programming their phones with an app to show a business, the IRS, and even can have it say the Michigan City Police! Caller ID spoofing is technology that allows the caller to alter the information on the caller ID. The unfortunate part is we cannot control this type of scam.
