MICHIGAN CITY — At the back of the newly renovated youth services area of Michigan City Public Library on Wednesday, several children worked steadily above the white glow of the facility’s new light table.

Using brightly colored and semi-translucent squares, triangles and other shapes, they built up miniature skyscrapers, houses and other buildings, all lit from below by the surface of the table. Sometimes they built them big and wide and structurally sound. Other times they fought to make theirs as tall as they could, later watching as their creations crashed down amidst the laughter of the other kids.
