Compiled from Michigan City Police Department reports MONDAY

At 12:05 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle on Michigan Boulevard near U.S. 12 commit a traffic infraction, so he performed a traffic stop near 5th and Pine streets. According to the MCPD, when the officer exited his patrol vehicle, the suspect vehicle fled and a short pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle stopped in the 400 block of East 6th Street and the subject was taken into custody. The subject, later identified as William E. Smith, was preliminarily charge with operating while intoxicated-endangerment, an A misdemeanor; operating while intoxicated, a C misdemeanor; and resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony.
