MICHIGAN CITY — Educators in Michigan City are beginning a unique new year with a new plan: establishing structures to support and coach educators, retain top-notch teachers, and improve student achievement.

Michigan City Area Schools is one of two districts in the state, along with the Nettle Creek School Corporation in Wayne County, to establish a partnership with the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching to create career ladders to assist in the advancement of teachers.
