A 426-acre parcel straddling U.S. 20 on the southeast side was annexed into Michigan City earlier this year. The Common Council is now considering rezoning about 300 of those acres for manufacturing.

MICHIGAN CITY — Nearly 300 acres of land on the city’s southeast side could be rezoned to accommodate heavy manufacturing if the Michigan City Common Council passes a related ordinance at its Dec. 8 meeting.

And the timing is right, as the site has been shortlisted by three separate companies looking to build, according to Roy Roelke, commercial real estate broker with NAI Cressy of Mishawaka.
