La PORTE — The men and women who have kept the La Porte County government up and running through an unprecedented year may soon receive a reward for their efforts.
During its virtual meeting on Wednesday, the La Porte County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution supporting a service-appreciation stipend to every county employee, to recognize their work amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
I hope the Commissioners also include those who work for the Coroners office, deputies who are sworn in their job by the County and receive a check from LaPorte County Government, but not considered County employees are on the front line as well with COVID-19 deaths and interacting with their families. They also are potentially exposed with any death they are called to investigate.
