MC volleyball star to continue playing at Rose-Hulman

One of the stars of the Michigan City High School volleyball team has signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and playing career. While Aaliyah Jones didn't have the traditional signing day event at the high school, she did sign last week to play volleyball and study civil engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, where she was awarded a full $200,000 scholarship. According to her mother, Sarah Jones, Aaliyah knew it would be difficult to get into Rose-Hulman, but applied even though she was skeptical. While she was accepted, and asked to play volleyball by the coach, it is an expensive university so she was looking at other options that wouldn't include playing, Sarah Jones said. "She put Rose out of her mind and looked at her other options. Then out of the blue this week, Rose awarded her a full tuition scholarship. She readily agreed, and held the staged signing at her home to make it official."
