Felony drug and weapons charges filed after traffic stop on I-94

A northeast Indiana man is facing felony drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop on I-94 near Chesterton Thursday. Indiana State Police stopped a a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder traveling westbound just east of the Chesterton exit. The stop eventually led to felony charges against 28-year-old Devante West of Howe, Indiana. An ISP K-9 had indicated the presence of drugs and a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up suspected heroin, oxycodone and marijuana, and a loaded handgun. Troopers also learned that West is a convicted felon. He was taken to the Porter County Jail on felony charges of being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm, dealing in a narcotic drug, and dealing in a Schedule 2 controlled substance.
