Remember When

A view of the Oasis Ballroom from the Ferris Wheel in Washington Park in Michigan City on Aug. 3, 1940. The Oasis Ballroom opened in 1927 and was one of the largest ballrooms in the Midwest. Dance fans came from afar to hear their favorite big bands, including Lawrence Welk, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Tommy Dorsey. It was torn down in 1962.
