Natural gas leak closes streets in Trail Creek

Streets were closed in the area of Johnson Road and Coolspring Avenue in Trail Creek on Wednesday afternoon Because of a natural gas main leak. Trail Creek Police said all streets were closed in the area as NIPSCO crews assessed the situation. NIPSCO spokeswoman Denise Conlon said the utility was notified just after 3:30 p.m. and had crews on scene immediately. The cause of the leak was unknown, she said, but a gas station in the area was evacuated as a precaution. About 8:30 p.m., Conlon said the site was secure, but about 30 homes in the area were without natural gas service while repairs were completed. She said NIPSCO representatives would be going door-to-door in the area to explain the situation to homeowners. It was unknown how long repair of the line would take.
