La PORTE — La Porte County officials are ready to put some money into a long-discussed plan to repair and upgrade the sirens in the countywide tornado warning system.

The La Porte County Board of Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved a $72,000 proposal from Marquiss Electric and American Signal to work on the sirens. The next step is to go before the La Porte County Council for approval.
