MICHIGAN CITY — Gov. Eric Holcomb hosted a group of federal, state and local officials to witness “Hoosier history being made” as work progresses on one of the largest public transit investments in state history – double tracking the South Shore Line from Michigan City to Gary.

The project, part of Holcomb’s Next Level Agenda, will add nearly 18 miles of new track over the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District’s existing line, and make improvements to the existing line, the governor said at a “groundbreaking” event Monday at 11th and Franklin streets in Michigan City.
