Mildred (Millie) Edling was born in New York City on Dec. 22, 1929.

Her family relocated to Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, where she attended high school. She received a bachelor’s degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and a master’s degree from Indiana University.

She met James (Jim) Edling in high school and they married on Aug. 18, 1951. She and Jim settled in Baltimore, Maryland, where she began her teaching career. They had five children.

In 1964 the family moved to Long Beach, Indiana, for Jim’s job with Bethlehem Steel.

Millie’s final teaching job was at Elston High School from 1971-1986.

In 1996 she and Jim relocated to King’s Point in Sun City Center, Florida, where they enjoyed golfing, dancing and many other activities. She made many friends and planned wonderful parties.

After Jim’s death in 2002, Millie met John Mongero with whom she shared 12 loving years until failing health separated them.

In 2017 Millie moved to her daughter Cynthia’s home in Folsom, California, and John moved near his family in Boston. John passed away in March 2019.

Millie’s final residence was Castle Oasis Care Home in Fair Oaks, California, where she passed peacefully on July 7, 2020.

Her son, Slade Edling, preceded in death. She is survived by her children, Victoria Hill of Michigan City, Indiana, Cynthia (Greg) Wilkins of Folsom, California, Michael Edling of Orlando, Florida, and Craig (Melanie) Edling of Mount Vernon, Indiana; six granddaughters; six grandsons; and six great-grandchildren and extended family. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother (Nanny), a popular and caring teacher and a friend to all.

No immediate plans have been made for a memorial service. She will be cremated and placed in her crypt next to her husband and parents in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens in Brandon, Florida. The date is yet to be determined due to COVID-19 restrictions. There will be a family celebration of her life at that time.
