Gene Gulstrom, 80, of Michigan City passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
Root Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Gene was born Sept. 18, 1939, in Michigan City to the late Kenneth and Lillian (Zygmuntowski) Gulstrom.
On Jan. 20, 1962, in Michigan City at St. Mary’s Church he married Susan VanGilder Gulstrom, who is surviving in Michigan City.
Also surviving is one daughter, Pamela (Marc) Wojcik; two sons, Brian (Dawn Marie) Gulstrom and Stephen (Peri) Gulstrom; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Cheyenne), Justin, Valerie, Reid, Gabrielle, Maxwell, Andrew and Jenna; one great-grandchild, Zoe; one sister, Valerie Heinz; one brother, Greg (Sherry) Gulstrom; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by one brother, Kent Gulstrom; and one sister, Joyce Hensell.
Gene was a retired salesman for the cash register industry.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church and St. Joseph Young Men’s Society. He loved to do woodworking, collecting and searching for antiques and recaning furniture. He was a runner who competed in many half marathons and he was a proud U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Army in Germany. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
