Michigan City Area Schools personnel and supporters are undoubtedly devastated and mystified at Tuesday’s referendum vote in which only 16.44 percent of the registered voters turned out and 3,498 voters were enough to defeat a tax rate increase that would have lifted the corporation out of its deficit spending.

Anger and frustration are understandable reactions, along with worry and concern about how to move forward without the additional funding.
