NEW CARLISLE -- As the third-quarter clock expired and the players started their march to the other end of the field, the spectators on the home side of Amzie Miller Field got on their feet and sent an ovation the way of the New Prairie Cougars.

Against all odds, New Prairie, a Class 4A school, was driving and down just a touchdown to unbeaten Elkhart, ranked fifth in the state’s 6A poll, after the defense produced its third interception of the night.
