NEW CARLISLE — As everyone looks for a silver lining in the struggle to maintain a sense of normal in 2020 athletics, John Arndt’s pretty sure he’s found one.

“I’m thankful we can race,” the New Prairie boys cross country coach said after Tuesday’s Cougar Kickoff Classic. “We didn’t run track. They need racing experience, even the experienced kids. We run a fabulous summer program, meals, a team trip up to the (Upper Peninsula) and do a half marathon. That was was all nixed. We have four seniors and hopefully next summer we can have something. The kids are so happy to just meet. They come early to practice. We have 50 percent attendance (in school), so the ones at home show up half an hour before just to talk. They want to be there.”
