La PORTE – In a game of pitching, hitting, fielding and throwing, it was running that made the ultimate difference for La Porte in a 3-2, 12-inning thriller against Crown Point on Thursday.

After Collin Bergquist beat out a ground ball to CP shortstop Cal Curiel, stole second and advanced to third on a short wild pitch, he raced home with the winning run when football backfield mate Jayden Parkes legged out a two-out roller to second baseman Luke Burford, who couldn’t get a handle on the baseball in his haste to throw out the Slicers speedster.
