Trent Hudspeth

Trent Hudspeth returned to football last season at South Central after not playing as a freshman and sophomore. He starts at receiver, rotates in at both secondary spots, and also handles kicking duties.

UNION MILLS — At small schools, football coaches sometimes have to come up with creative ways to draw athletes into the sport.

“We have to figure out how to get them out here, to experience what it really actually is, as opposed to what they think it is,” South Central coach Buzz Schoff said. “A lot of times, they’re going on what their dad, their grandfather, their uncle experienced in high school. It’s not that way any more. It’s not in your face. We’re not hitting with you golf clubs. We always have those kids who are wavering, but once we get them out to practice, they realize we have a lot of fun out here. It’s serious, we take care of business, but we have a lot of fun in the process.”
