La Porte coach Don Varda had to trot out a revamped lineup for Tuesday’s match with Duneland Athletic Conference leader Chesterton, and his Slicers just about pulled off the surprise, dropping a 7-5 third set in the decisive one singles match to fall 3-2 at Kesling Park.
