If Mel Kovenz was feeling a tad sentimental after Saturday’s Hobart Sectional, it was certainly understandable, though that’s not particularly his style.
The retiring Michigan City coach saw his team place third behind perennial champion Chesterton (539) and Valparaiso (401.5), edging rival La Porte 198.5-193 in the process, and was recognized afterward by his peers as the meet coach of the year.
Congratulations Coach Kovenz! I remember you teaching me some swimming skills at the Sullair pool! Thank you for your dedication to MCHS over so many years, enjoy retirement!
