Owen Strieter and Cevin Crawford

La Porte’s Owen Strieter (left) attempts to block a shot by Michigan City’s Cevin Crawford during the Wolves’ 63-42 win over the Slicers on Jan. 23 at Michigan City High School. Under the new sectional alignments, La Porte and Michigan City will not play in the same boys basketball sectional.

Last week, the Indiana High School Athletic Association announced the new sectional alignments for the next two years in all sports with classes (football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer). And there were some glaring changes that greatly affect our local schools. They didn’t affect our schools in a good way, for the most part. Traditional rivals have been separated in the postseason, while others have tougher sectional groupings due to manipulation of the system. Both Steve T. Gorches (Gorch on the Porch) and Aaron McKrell (Mind of McKrell) have outspoken opinions on the new alignments, so let’s hear from both of them on the subject.

Aaron McKrell: Another IHSAA mistake.
